This week's edition of local high school football trivia is dedicated to the great performances by local players in some of the biggest games in the modern history of local high school football.
See if you can answer the following 12 questions about the modern era of high school football in Monroe County, 1966-2004. If you get all of them right, you'll definitely qualify for the title of "local high school football expert." (Don't cheat, but you'll find the answers at the bottom.)

1. Excel junior lineman Drexel Lambert tackled Courtland's Warren Bailey in the end zone for a safety to give Excel a 2-0 lead with 7:15 left in the first quarter of the game. Those two points would prove to be Excel's only points in the game.
2. Blacksher's Craig Smith led the Bulldogs in rushing yardage with 83 total yards. Charlie Kilpatrick was the leading scorer with two touchdowns and 53 total yards.
3. In Excel's 1969 state championship win over Sweet Water, Excel quarterback Jimmy Dale Dawson ran for two touchdowns and kicked two extra points. Tony Narrimore also ran for two touchdowns. Mike Ledkins and Danny Wiggins scored on PAT attempts each.
4. Blacksher's Anthony Tucker carried the ball 43 times against Fruitdale on Oct. 3, 1997, a performance that earned him the No. 7 spot in the record books for most rushing attempts in a game.
5. In MCHS's win over Shields on Oct. 12, 1984, Woodrow McCarthy and Anthony Morrissette scored three touchdowns each. MCHS kicker Jay Dyess kicked seven extra points that night.
6. Shields quarterback Jeff Montgomery completed six of eight passes for 177 yards and four touchdowns during Shields' 84-0 win over R.C. Hatch. Montgomery also kicked two extra points, completed a pass for a two-point conversion and scored on a two-point conversion run that night.
7. Frisco City's John Tucker scored eight touchdowns against Sweet Water on Nov. 6, 1998. In 13 games during the 1998 season, Tucker would amass 2,302 yards, which places him at No. 24 on the AHSAA's list for most yards rushing in a single season.
8. Despite an injured shoulder, Shields quarterback Cory Stallworth completed 15 passes for 229 yards and four touchdowns to lead Shields to its playoff win over Verbena. Stallworth also completed two two-point conversion passes.
9. Frisco City's Carlos Salinas made 29 tackles against A.L Johnson in 1999 to earn the No. 2 spot on the state's list for most tackles in a single game, just two tackles shy of the No. 1 spot. Salinas would make 204 tackles in 1998 and 216 in 1999, placing him at fifth and seventh on the state's all-time list for most tackles in a single season. He's also the only player listed twice on the list.
10. In MA's state championship win over Hooper Academy in 1974, Ray Atkins caught a touchdown pass from quarterback Harold King. Keith Pugh ran for 167 yards on 16 carries, an average of 10.4 yards a carry, and scored touchdown. Pugh also kicked two extra points. Fella Owens scored the winning touchdown to give MA its fourth state championship.
11. In MCHS's playoff win over Robertsdale in 1986, halfback Mark Williams led MCHS in rushing with 110 yards on 21 carries.
