Just can't get enough! So, here's more

Due to the good response that I've received in the past month, via email and phone, regarding my three previous columns containing local high school football trivia, I've decided to follow-up with a fourth installment this week.
See if you can answer the following 12 questions about the modern era of high school football in Monroe County, 1966-2004. If you get all of them right, you'll definitely qualify for the title of "local high school football expert." (Don't cheat, but you'll find the answers at the bottom.)
1. Excel has produced a number of winning coaches over the years - Al Bowen, Lee Holladay, Bo Bishop and Carvell Rowell. Of the four, which coach led Excel to its only state football championship?
2. Which local team has the best record, based on winning percentage, when it comes to winning their season opener?
3. Which J.U. Blacksher team scored a school best 296 points in 11 games, for an average of 26.9 points per game, to earn the title of best offensive team in the school's history?
4. J.F. Shields has had seven head football coaches since 1972 - John Wiley, Herbert Blackmon, Melvin Pete Jr., George Coker, Chris Holmes, Phillip Griffin and Keith McGuire. Only two of these coaches posted winning records during their time at Shields. Who were they?
5. Few rivalries in Monroe County have been as heated as the rivalry between Frisco City and Excel. In which year did FCHS post its biggest win over Excel and what was the score?
6. This question is really the second part of the above question. In which year did Excel post its biggest win over FCHS and what was the score?
7. The state playoff system began in 1966, but MCHS's first appearance in the state playoffs didn't take place until many years later. In which year did MCHS make its first playoff appearance, and who was MCHS's head coach?
8. MCHS has had 13 different head coaches since 1966. Four of these coaches have guided MCHS to the state playoffs. Who were they?
9. Bayside Academy in Daphne kicked off its varsity football program in 2002 and since then they faced teams from Monroe County on six different occasions. What is Bayside's record against teams from Monroe County?
10. Frisco City has had 15 head football coaches since 1966. Based on winning percentage, who was the most successful coach during his time as head football coach at the school?
11. Blacksher's 1966 team boasted the best overall defense in the school's history, giving up just 43 points in 10 games on their way to a 9-1 record. The team also had a pretty decent offense thanks in large part to their junior quarterback. Who was Blacksher's quarterback in 1966 and why is he important to the history of Blacksher football?
12. Monroe Academy will open the 2005 football season against Wilcox Academy on Aug. 26 in Camden. Why is this game significant in the history of Monroe Academy football?
Answers:
1. Carvell Rowell led Excel to the Class 1A state championship in 1969.
2. Monroe Academy has the best record among local teams when it comes to winning their season opener. In season-opening games, MA is 26-9, a winning percentage of .743. Excel comes in second with a 27-12 record in season openers, a winning percentage of .692.
3. Based on total points scored and most points per game, Blacksher's 1978 team was the best offensive team in the school's history. They scored 296 points in 11 games under head coach Keith Cardwell, an average of 26.9 points per game. In fairness, it should be noted that Blacksher's 1971 team, under head coach Buddy Rhodes, also scored an average of 26.9 points per game, but only scored a total of 269 points in 10 games.
4. Legendary Shields coach John Wiley finished his career at Shields with a 98-82-3 record, a winning percentage of .536. Chris Holmes posted a 5-5 record during his time at Shields, a winning percentage of .500.
5. FCHS's biggest win over Excel came on Oct. 12, 1984, when the Whippets beat Excel by 23 points in Frisco City. FCHS won 37-14.
6. Excel's biggest win over FCHS came on Sept. 12, 1974, when Excel beat FCHS by 48 points in Frisco City. Excel won 48-0.
7. MCHS earned its first ever berth in the state playoffs in 1985. Howard "Buzz" Busby was MCHS's head coach that season.
8. MCHS head coaches Steve Allen, Howard Busby, Keith Cardwell and Art Davis have all guided MCHS teams to the state playoffs. Busby took MCHS to the playoffs three times. Allen took the Tigers to the playoffs twice. Cardwell and Davis made one trip each to the playoffs while at MCHS.
9. No team from Monroe County has ever beaten Bayside Academy in football. Since 2002, Bayside has beaten Excel three times and Shields twice. Bayside beat FCHS 41-0 in 2004 in the only meeting between the two schools in football.
10. Based on winning percentage, FCHS head coach Donald Hand was the school's most successful head football coach. Hand, the current Athletic Programs Director for the Alabama Independent School Association (AISA), coached two seasons at FCHS, 1968-1969, compiling a 17-3 overall record during that time.
11. Keith Cardwell, Blacksher's current principal, was Blacksher's quarterback in 1966, a season in which he completed 13 touchdown passes. After the 1967 season, Cardwell signed a college football scholarship with the University of Chattanooga, where his brother, Joe, played linebacker. Cardwell eventually returned to Blacksher, where he served as head football coach from 1976 to 1988. During his 13 seasons at Blacksher, Cardwell would win 69 total games, more than any other coach in the school's modern history. Cardwell also led the school to the playoffs for the first time in the school's history in 1976 and led Blacksher to its only 10-0 regular season in 1978.
12. The Aug. 26, 2005 game between Monroe Academy and Wilcox Academy will be the 400th game in the history of Monroe Academy's football program. MA is 11-8 all-time against Wilcox.
